How do I get started?Call us to discuss your concerns. We start with an initial consultation to see if Horizons is a right fit for you. If you decide to proceed, an evaluation is scheduled and a case history and initial patient intake packet will be sent electronically. A physician's referral is required for patients utilizing insurance.

What can I expect during an evaluation? An evaluation can range from 30 minutes to 1 1/2 hours depending on the areas being evaluated. We use formal and informal testing measures including: parent/caregiver interview/ case history, clinical observations, and standardized testing. Referrals to other providers may be made, if during the evaluation your child is having difficulties that are outside the scope of practice of the SLP. Following the evaluation you will receive a brief verbal summary of the evaluation. If therapy is recommended, a written report will be reviewed with you during the first therapy session. If it is found that your child has age-level speech and language skills, a written report will be sent to you via preferred method of delivery (mail or email).

How long and how frequent are therapy visits?Therapy is different for every patient. Therapy sessions vary based on evaluation findings, severity, and areas being targeted. Recommendations vary from 1 to 3 times a week for 30 or 60 minute sessions. Recommendations for duration of therapy is discussed after the evaluation.
